Look at what contractors perform work in your desired specialty (electrical contractor, carpentry contractor, excavation contractor, etc.)
Understand what trades are seasonal (meaning you will have to budget for the time you won’t be on the jobsite) and which offer year-round work
Look at the size of the company: some people prefer to work for larger companies that have opportunities for different career specialties (estimators, crew leaders, etc.) while others prefer the more intimate all-around training offered by smaller contractors
Find out if potential employers offer any kind of training or career advancement opportunities, such as a stipend towards schooling or employer-led training classes
Most companies require you to have a car or other reliable source of transportation as jobsites are not always accessible by public transit. If you do not have a car, be sure to ask if the company has any carpooling referrals.
